Reading Analysis
Reading Analysis
WALT: make a snap shot of my reading ability using the National Standards learning progressions.
This week we videoed ourselves reading an extract from Bridge to Terabithia. We had to watch ourselves and notice what challenges we faced when reading at 13-14 years. We had to choose 4 challenges that stood out the most. Then we had to think how we were going to make changes to our reading, by setting goals.
The Challenges I Face In Reading Are:
- Reading Quietly
- Saying words wrong
- not understanding a few words
- Not really seeing the pictures
- not being able to read confidently
The Goals that I will focus on in term 4, So To Help Me Become A Better Reader Are:
- Reading 3 chapter books a week.
- Do reading every night
- write a summary about every book I read so I can understand what my book is about
- Do 3 reading worksheets a night for Homework

The One And Only Prince
Purpose: We are making a narrative so to entertain the audience.
WALT: plan a narrative by using a simple structure.
...The One And Only Prince…
Kia Ora,
Today me and my sister will be telling a story about why we need to find our one and only prince. Why? Because my sister is a jealous princess.
“Chozen, why did you tell them I’m a jealous princess.”
“Told you she was jealous.”
Lights, Camera ... ACTION...
In a bright chirping forest there lived two beautiful Princess’. One named Chozen (that’s me) and one jealous even more beautiful Princess named Ngarangi. They were both sisters, 3 years apart in age. Princess Chozen was beautiful because she’s kind, caring and helpful. Ngarangi thinks she’s the best when she’s not. She always makes Chozen do everything like she’s the oldest but she’s not. They had something in common however, they both wanted to find their one and only prince.
So, one beautifully bright and sunny day Princess Chozen went walking down to the river at the back of their castle. On the way she heard a quiet voice. She quickly ran down to the river and came to a sudden stop. There he was, her prince charming waiting for her.
“Hello” she gulped
“Ohh, hi there, you gave me a bit of a fright” said Prince Remus.
Prince Remus was wondering if she was a Princess but he was too scared to ask her.
“What’s your name?”
“Remus”
“So…. do have a job”.
“Oh no, I’m a”.
“Don’t say it” she interrupts
“A”.
“You're a Prince”.
“Yes” Prince Remus replies.
“Well do you work” he asks.
“No, because I’m”.
“Your?” Prince Remus interrupts this time.
“ I’m a Princess”.
Prince Remus got on his knees and asked her to marry him and she responded with,
“yes I will.”
As they continued talking, Princess Ngarangi heard a laugh down by the river. She went tiptoeing through the forest to see who it was, and she saw her sister chatting and laughing to a handsome young man. Princess Ngarangi was instantly jealous.
“No I wasn’t Chozen!”
“Who's telling this story me or you?”
“Fine, but stick to the truth would you”
“Where was I..”
Ngarangi quickly ran back to the house. “Chozen” she called, “dinner time”. “Ok, I have to go now” she quickly stood.
Grabbing her hand, “wait I’ll come with you”.
As she thinks about it she says, “ok but don’t let my sister see you or she’ll get jealous”.
“Ok,” replied Prince Remus. When they walked into the house Ngarangi was standing right at the door and saw him hide away.
“Where were you”
“I was down at the river”
“Doing what?” quizzed Ngarangi.
“Just singing” lied Chozen.
“Oh, I saw a Prince walk down toward the river”.
Chozen was nervous and she didn’t want to tell the truth.
Ngarangi got jealous
“Really Chozen…”
“Stop interrupting me!”
“Oh my god! You’re making me sound horrible”
“It’s just a story, you know I love you right. Anyway where was I”
As Ngarangi got jealous, she had to remember there was another Prince out there waiting for his true love to come. So Chozen, Remus and Ngarangi went out looking for a Prince. When they saw a young man lying on the side of the road. Chozen and Remus tried to wake him up but they couldn’t. So Ngarangi gave him the biggest kiss. He blinked and slowly woke up with amazement.
“What---------who, who did that?”
“I did” smiled Ngarangi.
“Are you what I think you are”.
“A princess? Yep and you’re a Prince”
“Yeah” he smiled. “You must be my one true love I plan on marrying” he replied.
“What’s your name?” Ngarangi questioned.
“Prince Ashtyn”.
As Ashtyn gets to his knees he asks her to marry him. “Will you marry me, my lady?”
“YES! We have to get married at the castle with my sister though. She’s getting married too.”
“Wake up, wake up” said Chozen dancing around in her long white dress. “It’s our wedding day today Ngarangi”.
With excitement she sped out the door to wake up the flower girls.
“GOOD MORNING” she said to their bridesmaid Jade and Josemiria.
Chozen was so excited that she couldn’t stop dancing. As Jade and Josemiria did their hair and shoes, both princess’ looked even more beautiful and radiant.
After the princess’ big wedding celebration, the sisters smiled at each other.
“That was totally awesome” said Chozen
“I can’t believe we both found our one true love” replied Ngarangi
“You have to promise never to be jealous again”
“I promise”
“And to be happy”
“I promise” smiles Ngarangi
“And to name your first baby after me” laughs Chozen
“You’re pushing it Chozen” she laughs “Done” she says.
“For the past few weeks the families have been happy. Why? Because they solved their problem with jealous princess Ngarangi”.
“That’s right, I've realised there was no reason to be jealous to begin with”.

Little Red Kitty
Fractured Fairy Tale.
WALT: recraft a traditional fairy tale by changing characters, settings, main events and ideas but still making sure that the bone-structure of the fairy tale can be recognised.
...Little Red Kitty…
Not so far away but just down Piccadilly Road, Little Red Kitty was taking some freshly baked muffins over to her grandmother’s house. As Little Red Kitty walked through the paddock she spotted Big Black Hood walking towards her, suddenly he stopped her. Now Little Red Kitty forgot that she mustn’t talk to strangers, especially Big Black Hood.
“Hello Dear what's your name.”
“Oh my name is Little Red Kitty” .
“Well my name’s Big Black Hood, and…..ohhhhh, where are you taking those lovely muffins”.
“I’m taking them to my grandmothers house just around that corner.” replied Little Red Kitty.
Big Black Hood wanted those muffins badly so he raced over to grandmother’s house and knocked on her door.
“Hello, is anyone home.” asked Big Black Hood.
“ Yes love, I’m just lying in bed.” replied Grandmother. Big Black Hood went to her bed, tied her up and shoved her in the cupboard.
Then Little Red Kitty entered Grandmother’s house and walked right up to her nan’s bed.
“Grandmother what big ears you have.” inquired Little Red Kitty.
“All the better to hear you with.” answered Big Black Hood.
“And what big eyes you have,” she said, “
“All the better to see you with,” said Big Black Hood.
“And what big teeth you have”.
“All the better to eat you with” said Big Black Hood, and he jumped out of bed and started chasing Little Red Kitty. He thought a smidgen of Little Red Kitten would make a lovely dessert after a feed of muffins.
A farmer who was milking cows in the paddock heard Little Red Kitty screaming. He smashed the window and jump through it and hit the Big Black Hood across the face. The Big Black Hood fell to the ground, dead. Then Little Red Kitty’s grandmother fell out of the cupboard, so Little Red Kitty and the farmer untied her.
Afterwards Little Red Kitty, the farmer and grandmother sat quietly at the table having dinner by the fire, contemplating about the day’s event.
...The End…
